The treatment

What is Lumixa?

Lumixa uses a topical photoconverter gel activated by a professional LED lamp. The gel converts the incoming light into Fluorescent Light Energy, or FLE, producing a broader range of wavelengths at the skin surface.

This light-based treatment is designed to support skin repair processes and collagen activity. The gel remains on the surface and is removed after treatment.

At a glance

A comfortable treatment with a tailored plan.

COMFORT

Usually painless

No needles or numbing cream are used.

DOWNTIME

Usually none planned

Most patients can return to everyday activities afterwards.

LIGHT STAGE

20 minutes

Allow extra time for assessment, cleansing and finishing skincare.

COURSE

Three to five sessions

Three to five sessions are recommended. Your therapist will recommend the intervals according to your skin and treatment plan.

What can it help with?

Your skin assessment guides the choice of formulation.

ACNE

Acne and acne-prone skin

Lumixa Skin Normaliser may help calm the appearance of redness and inflammation in acne-prone skin. It can form part of a treatment plan alongside suitable skincare or medical treatment. Painful, persistent or scarring acne also needs a doctor’s assessment.

REDNESS

Reactive or sensitive-looking skin

May help improve the appearance of redness and support skin comfort. Persistent redness needs assessment to establish the cause.

RADIANCE

Dull or tired-looking skin

Can form part of a programme for a fresher-looking complexion alongside suitable daily skincare.

TEXTURE

Fine lines and skin quality

May improve the appearance of early lines and uneven texture through a course of treatments.

FIRMNESS

Visible signs of ageing

Selected formulations target age-related changes in skin quality and firmness. The aim is gradual improvement rather than a lifting procedure.

The Lumixa range

Three formulations with different treatment focuses. Your therapist will explain which is appropriate and available.

SKIN NORMALISER

For acne-prone skin, redness and flushing

Activated with blue LED. Skin Normaliser is used for acne-prone skin and to help calm the appearance of redness, including selected rosacea-related redness and facial flushing. It may also be selected for reactive, dull or dehydrated skin, with the aim of improving skin comfort and supporting a calmer-looking complexion. Persistent redness or flushing needs assessment to identify the cause; rosacea may also require medical treatment.

COLLAGEN BOOSTER

For early lines and texture

Activated with blue LED. Collagen Booster focuses on early signs of ageing, including fine lines, visible pores and uneven texture. It is designed to support collagen activity and improve overall skin quality, making it an option when smoother-looking, fresher skin is the main goal.

AGE CONTROL

For more established signs of ageing

Activated with red LED. Age Control focuses on more established signs of ageing, including wrinkles and changes in firmness and elasticity. It may be considered for mature skin, including skin concerns that develop around perimenopause and menopause. Suitability is based on your skin concerns rather than age alone.

What happens at your appointment?

A simple treatment, with individual guidance.

01

Assess your skin

We review your concern, sensitivity, skincare and medicines. Tell us about light sensitivity, relevant eye conditions and previous reactions.

02

Apply the gel

Your skin is cleansed and the selected photoconverter gel is applied to the treatment area.

03

Activate with LED

You relax under the professional LED lamp with appropriate eye protection while the gel produces fluorescent light energy.

04

Finish and plan

The gel is removed and suitable finishing skincare is applied. We explain aftercare and agree the next appointments.

Comfort and downtime

A gentle approach to improving skin quality.

DURING TREATMENT

Is it painful?

Lumixa is usually painless. No needles or numbing cream are used. Tell your therapist if the gel or light causes discomfort so the treatment can be adjusted or stopped.

AFTER TREATMENT

What is the downtime?

There is usually no planned downtime from Lumixa alone. Temporary sensitivity or redness may occur. If it is combined with another procedure, that treatment may have different aftercare and downtime.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you book.

How soon will I see a difference?

You may notice a fresher appearance or improved skin comfort early in the course. Changes in lines and texture are more gradual. We review progress during the course and afterwards rather than promise a fixed result after one session.

How many sessions will I need?

Three to five sessions are recommended. Your therapist will recommend the intervals according to your skin, the Lumixa formulation selected and any other treatments in your plan. Progress will be reviewed during the course.

Which Lumixa treatment should I choose?

You do not need to select the formulation yourself. Your therapist will assess whether redness, early texture changes or more established signs of ageing are the main priority and explain the options available.

Can Lumixa help rosacea?

Skin Normaliser may be used as supportive care for rosacea-related redness and facial flushing after assessment. It does not remove visible blood vessels or replace medical management. Rosacea may also require prescription treatment.

Can it help acne-prone skin?

Skin Normaliser is used for acne-prone skin, particularly where redness and inflammation are part of the concern. It can be included in an individual acne-care plan. Painful, persistent or scarring acne should also be assessed by a doctor.

Will it treat acne scars or pigmentation?

These concerns need a separate assessment. Lumixa may support general skin quality, but established indented scars or significant pigmentation may need a different treatment.

Is Lumixa a laser treatment?

No. It uses LED light to activate a topical gel. It does not use a laser beam or intentionally remove layers of skin.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes, where appropriate. Your therapist will recommend the order and spacing, explain the role of each treatment and confirm any additional aftercare.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Some formulations are intended for reactive skin, but suitability is still assessed individually. Tell us about allergies, dermatitis, current irritation and any previous reaction to skincare.

Is it suitable for all skin tones?

Your therapist will assess your skin tone, condition and pigmentation history alongside the product and LED guidance. Suitability is individual rather than assumed.

Can I have it in summer?

The supplier describes Lumixa as non-photosensitising, so it can be considered throughout the year. Daily sun protection remains an important part of skincare.

Who may not be suitable?

Tell us about pregnancy, photosensitivity, medicines that increase light sensitivity, relevant eye conditions and allergies to gel ingredients. Suitability is checked against the product and LED manufacturer’s guidance.

What should I do afterwards?

Follow your therapist’s advice on gentle skincare and sun protection. Ask when to restart active products if your skin is sensitive or if another procedure was included.

Will I need maintenance appointments?

Maintenance may be discussed after reviewing your response. The interval depends on your skin and goals; natural ageing and ongoing skin conditions can continue.
