The treatment

What is the SR handpiece?

SR is an AFT pulsed-light applicator on the Harmony XL PRO platform. The light is filtered to target selected superficial pigmented lesions; it is not a laser.

The right diagnosis matters. Sun spots may respond differently from melasma, post-inflammatory marks or a changing lesion, so we examine the area before treatment.

In brief

What to expect

A test patch may be advised. During treatment, protective eyewear is worn and the handpiece passes across selected skin. A brief warm snap is possible.

Personalised assessment: We review your medical history, skin, treatment area and any reasons to defer treatment.

01 / Concerns

Which pigment concerns are suitable?

We avoid treating an uncertain lesion simply because it looks like a sun spot.

Sun damage

Sun spots

Selected benign sun-related brown marks can be considered for light treatment after assessment.

Tone

Uneven tone

A wider area of superficial sun damage may be planned as a course, with realistic expectations.

Caution

Melasma

Often needs a skin-care-led plan; light can aggravate some cases. We discuss the diagnosis and alternatives.

Medical review

Changing pigmented lesions

A new, changing or unusual mark requires appropriate medical examination rather than cosmetic light treatment.

02 / Your plan

Treat the diagnosis, not just the colour

We discuss whether SR, another Harmony option or a non-device plan fits the pigmentation.

Course

How many sessions?

Some discrete spots need fewer sessions; widespread sun damage may require a course. We do not promise complete clearance.

Results

When is improvement visible?

A treated spot may darken temporarily and then shed or fade over days to weeks. Persistent or recurrent pigment may need review.

03 / Treatment & downtime

What happens at an appointment?

Sun exposure and skin type are important parts of the safety assessment.

Comfort

During treatment

There are bright flashes and a brief snapping sensation. Eye protection is required.

Downtime

Afterwards

Redness, warmth and temporary darkening of pigment may occur. Do not pick at healing areas.

Safety

Before treatment

Recent tanning, photosensitising medicines and the risk of post-inflammatory pigment change are reviewed.

Care

Aftercare

Daily sun protection and gentle care help reduce irritation and recurrence. Follow your individual instructions.

Helpful answers

SR Light FAQs

What is SR light treatment?

SR is a filtered pulsed-light treatment used for selected superficial pigmentation. It is not a laser. The suitability of each mark depends on its diagnosis, depth and your skin type.

How is it different from Dye-VL?

Both are light applicators, but their filters and treatment priorities differ. SR is generally discussed for superficial brown sun-related marks; Dye-VL is often selected when redness or superficial vessels are a main concern.

How many sessions will I need?

A single discrete spot may need fewer sessions than widespread sun damage. A short course is often discussed for broader areas, with the interval and number decided after a test patch or assessment.

When will the pigment improve?

Treated spots often look darker at first and then flake or fade over the following one to two weeks. Further improvement is assessed after the skin settles; some marks need another session.

What is the downtime?

Normal activities can often continue, but redness or warmth may be visible for one to two days. Darkened spots may be noticeable for about a week or longer before they fade. Do not pick any crusting.

Can SR treat freckles or melasma?

Some freckles and sun spots may respond, but they can return with sun exposure. Melasma behaves differently and can relapse or worsen after light treatment, so it needs a separate assessment and skin-care plan.

Can I have treatment with a tan or darker skin tone?

Recent tanning and higher skin pigment can increase the chance of a light-based reaction. We assess your skin, may defer treatment, use a test patch or recommend a different approach such as ClearLift where suitable.

What if a brown mark is changing?

Do not cover or treat a new, changing, bleeding or unusual mark with cosmetic light treatment. It should be examined medically first.

What should I do after treatment?

Follow the gentle skincare instructions, protect the area from the sun and leave any darkened spot to shed naturally. We will tell you when to restart active skincare.
