Chemical peel FAQs
Which peel is best for me?
Pure focuses on congestion and blemish-prone skin, Glow on pigmentation and radiance, and Refresh on fine lines and texture. We choose according to your skin type, concern and sensitivity.
Will my skin visibly peel?
Not necessarily. Some people have little visible flaking, while others develop dryness or light shedding. Visible peeling is not required for a superficial peel to have an effect.
Is it painful?
Temporary tingling, warmth or mild stinging can occur. Tell your therapist if the sensation is painful so the treatment can be reassessed.
What is the downtime?
Usually little, although mild redness, dryness or flaking can appear. The duration depends on strength and skin response. We give advice for the peel selected rather than promise zero downtime.
Can it help acne or acne scars?
Pure may improve congestion, blackheads and selected acne-prone skin. A superficial peel has limited effect on deep, indented scars; microneedling or another scar treatment may suit better.
Can it treat melasma?
Glow may be considered as part of a broader pigmentation plan. Melasma can recur and irritation can worsen pigmentation, so assessment, careful selection and sun protection are important.
Is it suitable for darker skin tones?
Glow is listed by 4T Medical for all Fitzpatrick skin types; Pure and Refresh are listed for types I-IV. We assess your individual skin and history because pigment changes are still possible.
How many peels will I need?
This depends on the goal and response. A single refresh or a series can be discussed. We agree the number and intervals after assessment.
When can I wear makeup?
Follow the advice for your particular peel. If the skin is irritated, flaking or not fully healed, wait until your therapist confirms it is suitable.
Do I need to stop my usual skincare?
Some active products, including retinoids and exfoliating acids, may need to be paused. Tell us what you use and we will explain when to stop and restart it.
Can I combine a peel with microneedling or laser?
Sometimes treatments form part of a wider plan, but timing and intensity need care. Tell us about recent procedures so we can avoid overlapping irritation and allow healing.
What are the risks?
Redness, sensitivity and flaking are expected possible reactions. Less common complications include allergy, burns, infection, cold sore reactivation, pigment change or scarring. Contact us for severe pain, blistering or an unexpected reaction.
