Understanding your skin

Acne can leave more than one type of mark

You may still have new spots, or you may have flat red or brown marks after spots heal. Small dips and pits are acne scars. These concerns need different approaches, so we start by assessing your skin and listening to what bothers you most.

01 / Active acne

Still getting spots?

Managing active acne is often the first step. It may help reduce new breakouts and the risk of further scarring.

02 / After acne

Flat red or brown marks?

A flat mark is different from an indented scar. Its colour helps guide which options are worth discussing.

For red marks

Dye-VL laser

May help reduce persistent redness after spots have healed. It targets colour, rather than a dip in the skin.

What to expect: Brief warmth or a light snapping sensation. Redness or swelling may last a few days; more than one session may be needed.

03 / Acne scars

Dips, pits or uneven texture?

We assess the type and depth of scarring before choosing a treatment. The aim is usually to make scars less noticeable and improve skin texture.

For some shallow scars

Microneedling

Encourages skin remodelling and may soften the appearance of shallow, indented scars.

What to expect: Numbing cream may be used. Redness and sensitivity for a few days. Usually planned as a course, with gradual results.
