Understanding your hands

What would you like to improve?

The backs of the hands can show changes in colour, texture and fullness. These concerns respond to different treatments, so we assess the area before recommending a plan.

01 / Assess first

A plan for your hands

We check skin quality, pigmentation and volume. We also look closely at any marks before considering cosmetic treatment.

Personalised assessment

Hand consultation

We discuss what bothers you, examine the backs of your hands and explain suitable options, recovery and realistic results.

What to expect: No recovery from the consultation. A separate medical assessment may be recommended for a concerning skin mark.

A new, changing, bleeding or rough mark should be medically assessed before cosmetic laser or resurfacing.

02 / Volume

Are veins and tendons more visible?

As fullness decreases, the structures beneath the skin can stand out. Restoring volume may soften their appearance.

Loss of hand fullness

Radiesse for hands

May restore fullness to the backs of suitable hands and soften the appearance of prominent veins and tendons.

What to expect: Injections can cause swelling, tenderness or bruising, sometimes affecting everyday hand use briefly. The treatment plan and recovery are discussed at consultation.

03 / Pigmentation

Sun spots or uneven colour?

We assess each mark before choosing a laser or light treatment. Not every brown mark is suitable for cosmetic treatment.

Selected sun spots

ClearLift or Harmony light treatment

An appropriate laser or light option may help selected sun-related pigmentation and uneven tone on the backs of the hands.

What to expect: A warm or snapping sensation, with possible redness or temporary darkening of treated spots. A course may be recommended.

04 / Skin quality

Does the skin look dry or crepey?

Skin quality treatments focus on the surface and fine lines. They will not replace lost hand volume.

Crepey-looking skin

Profhilo

May be considered for hydration and fine skin quality changes in suitable hands, subject to product suitability and clinical assessment.

What to expect: Small injections may leave temporary bumps or bruising. Results develop gradually; a course may be advised.

Fine lines & texture

Microneedling or RF microneedling

May improve selected fine lines and uneven texture by treating the skin itself.

What to expect: Numbing can be discussed. Temporary redness and sensitivity are common; RF microneedling may have more visible recovery. Usually planned as a course.

05 / Resurfacing

Looking to improve rough texture?

A more intensive resurfacing option may be considered after reviewing your skin type, sun exposure and recovery time.

Selected texture changes

iPixel resurfacing

May help selected rough texture and the appearance of sun-damaged skin on the backs of the hands.

What to expect: Redness, roughness and peeling can require planned recovery. We discuss aftercare and sun protection before treatment.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

Which treatment is right for my hands?

It depends on whether your main concern is visible veins, brown marks, crepey skin or texture. We can plan treatment in stages if more than one concern is present.

Will my hands look swollen afterwards?

Injections can cause temporary swelling or bruising. We explain the expected recovery for your chosen treatment before you decide.

How many sessions will I need?

Some skin and pigmentation treatments are planned as a course. The number of sessions and review timing are tailored to your skin and response.

Can every brown spot be treated?

No. A mark that is new, changing or uncertain needs medical assessment first.

Will I need sun protection?

Yes. Protecting the hands from the sun is particularly important after pigmentation treatment or resurfacing.
