Hooded
Eyelidsin Colchester

A heavier-looking upper eyelid can have different causes. The first step is finding out which one applies to you.

Understanding the area

What have you noticed?

Some people have looser skin on the upper eyelid. For others, the brow sits lower or the edge of the eyelid itself has dropped. We assess the eyelids and surrounding area before discussing treatment.

01 / Assess first

Is it the skin, brow or eyelid?

These changes need different approaches. A true drop of the eyelid edge is not corrected by cosmetic skin resurfacing.

Start here

Upper-eyelid consultation

We assess brow and eyelid position, loose skin, and whether your vision is affected. We explain which options may help.

What to expect: No discomfort or recovery from the consultation. We may recommend specialist assessment if appropriate.

If an eyelid has suddenly drooped or your vision is affected, seek prompt medical or eye assessment rather than waiting for an aesthetics appointment.

02 / Loose skin

Is upper-eyelid skin less firm?

We discuss the degree of looseness and the recovery time you can manage before selecting a skin treatment.

Selected loose or crepey skin

Fractional CO₂ laser

May improve mild to moderate upper-eyelid skin laxity and texture. It does not remove substantial excess skin or correct a true dropped eyelid.

What to expect: Numbing and eye protection. Redness, swelling, roughness or peeling may follow; allow for visible recovery.

Early changes in firmness

Radiofrequency

Non-needle radiofrequency gently warms selected skin around the eyes and may be considered for mild laxity.

What to expect: Warmth and possible temporary redness, usually with limited visible recovery. A course may be advised.

Selected skin around the eyes

Secret PRO RF microneedling

May improve fine lines and skin quality in suitable areas around the eyes. The exact treatment area depends on anatomy and the device protocol.

What to expect: Numbing may be discussed. Temporary redness, swelling or sensitivity can follow. Often planned as a course.

03 / Skin quality

Fine lines and crepey-looking skin?

A skin quality treatment may be worth discussing if the concern is fine lines rather than a large fold of excess skin.

Delicate skin quality

Polynucleotides

May be considered for thin-looking or crepey skin and fine lines around the eyes. They do not lift a hooded lid or remove excess skin.

What to expect: Small injections with possible temporary bumps, swelling or bruising. A course is usually planned; results develop gradually.

04 / When skin treatment is not enough

Is the fold substantial or is vision affected?

Substantial excess skin, true eyelid droop or a change in vision may need specialist eye or surgical assessment. We will explain when that route is more appropriate.

Medical or surgical opinion

Specialist eyelid assessment

An eye specialist or surgeon can assess whether eyelid surgery or another medical treatment is appropriate.

What to expect: We explain why referral is recommended and how to take the next step.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

Will treatment hurt?

Radiofrequency feels warm. Polynucleotides involve small injections. Numbing is discussed for fractional CO₂ laser and RF microneedling.

Will I need time off work?

Radiofrequency usually has little visible recovery. Injections and RF microneedling may cause swelling or redness. CO₂ has more noticeable recovery.

How many sessions will I need?

Radiofrequency, RF microneedling and polynucleotides are often planned as courses. CO₂ sessions depend on the assessment.

Will laser remove my hooded eyelids?

It may improve selected loose skin but will not remove substantial excess skin or correct a true drop of the eyelid edge.

What if only one eyelid has changed?

We assess the cause. If the change is sudden, arrange prompt medical advice rather than waiting for cosmetic treatment.

Start with a conversation

Not sure if it is the brow, skin or eyelid?

We assess the area, explain what is contributing to the appearance and recommend a realistic next step.
