Understanding the area

What have you noticed?

The under-eye area may look tired because of a shadow, pigmentation, a change in skin quality, loose skin or prominent bags. More than one factor may be involved. We assess the area before recommending treatment.

01 / Start with assessment

What is causing the tired appearance?

A dark circle caused by colour is different from a shadow caused by hollowing. The assessment helps us explain what each treatment can address.

Start here

Under-eye consultation

We assess the skin, any puffiness, the shape of the under-eye area and the support from the cheeks.

What to expect: No discomfort or recovery from the consultation. We explain suitable options and realistic results.

02 / Skin quality

Fine lines, crepey texture or loose skin?

Different treatments suit different degrees of skin change. We will discuss the likely benefit and recovery for each.

Selected fine lines

Polynucleotides

May be considered for fine lines and thin-looking under-eye skin. They do not fill a deep hollow or remove a bag.

What to expect: Brief injections. Temporary small bumps, swelling or bruising may occur. Usually planned as a course.

Fine lines and texture

Microneedling

Creates tiny controlled channels in selected skin around the eye area. May help soften fine lines and improve texture after assessment.

What to expect: A prickly sensation; numbing may be offered. Temporary redness and sensitivity are possible. Usually planned as a course.

Gentle warming treatment

Radiofrequency

Non-needle radiofrequency gently warms selected skin around the eyes and may improve the appearance of early fine lines or mild laxity.

What to expect: Warmth during treatment and possible temporary redness, usually with little visible recovery. A course may be advised.

Secret PRO RF microneedling

May improve selected areas of crepey under-eye skin and fine lines. We assess exactly where treatment can be performed safely.

What to expect: Numbing cream may be used. Temporary redness, swelling or sensitivity can follow. A course may be recommended.

More visible resurfacing

Fractional CO₂ laser

Secret PRO's fractional CO₂ option may improve crepey texture, fine lines and selected skin laxity around the eyes. It does not remove protruding under-eye fat.

What to expect: Numbing and appropriate eye protection. Redness, swelling and peeling, with more visible recovery than gentler options.

Gentler laser option

ClearLift laser

May be considered for selected fine lines and skin appearance around the eye area. It does not restore volume or remove prominent bags.

What to expect: Warmth or light snapping. Temporary redness is possible; a course may be advised. Eye protection is essential.

Everyday care

Under-eye skincare

A suitable routine may help dry or sensitive skin and support other treatments, with sun protection where pigmentation is involved.

What to expect: No procedure or downtime. Skincare cannot correct a structural hollow or prominent bag.

03 / Shadows and hollowing

Is a dip creating the shadow?

We assess the shape of the under-eye area and cheek before discussing whether adding support is appropriate.

Carefully selected patients

Under-eye and cheek filler

A small amount of filler may be discussed when hollowing creates a shadow. Sometimes cheek support is more appropriate than filler directly under the eye.

What to expect: Injection discomfort, possible swelling or bruising. Not suitable for everyone; it may worsen existing puffiness. Specific risks are discussed.

04 / Puffiness and bags

Are under-eye bags your main concern?

We assess whether the appearance comes mainly from loose skin, fluid or protruding fat. Fractional CO₂ may improve loose, crepey skin that makes mild puffiness more noticeable. It cannot remove a prominent fat bag.

If protruding fat is the main cause, a specialist surgical opinion may be more appropriate. We will be clear about the limits of non-surgical treatments.

Frequently asked questions

Will treatment hurt?

Injectables involve brief needle or cannula discomfort. Microneedling feels prickly; non-needle radiofrequency feels warm. Numbing is usually discussed for RF microneedling and CO₂ resurfacing.

Will I need time off work?

Injections can cause visible bumps, swelling or bruising. Microneedling and RF microneedling may leave redness; non-needle radiofrequency usually has little visible recovery. CO₂ has more visible recovery with redness and peeling.

How many sessions will I need?

Polynucleotides, microneedling, radiofrequency and RF microneedling are often planned as courses. CO₂ sessions and filler suitability depend on assessment.

Can CO₂ laser get rid of eye bags?

It may improve loose, crepey skin. It does not remove a prominent bag caused by protruding fat.

Is under-eye filler suitable for everyone?

No. Careful patient selection is essential because filler can cause persistent swelling or discolouration, and rare complications can be serious.
